Bjorn
Hair and Makeup Artist for Beauty in Milwaukee

What's Bjorn's hair & make-up philosophy?
What is flattering to your facial shape and skin tone is always the way to go. A really good haircut, and pretty, expertly applied makeup will take you very far. Only a few people can really pull off extreme hair and make up.  Simplicity is always beautiful. Focus on your best features and play them up.

How did you get into this business?
I started as a model, and then jumped behind the camera as a photo assistant, and when the make up artist/hairdresser didn't show one day,  my styling career was born!  Beauty school came later and I learned my craft as a salon hairdresser as well.

You are very creative with your styling.  Where does the inspiration for your creativity originate?
I love to reference the golden age of Hollywood, as well as fashion magazines from the past.  I have an extensive collection of books, as well as magazines.  Film and video are also a huge contributor.  Growing up on a farm, it was pretty dreary, so I loved the fantasy of all that was glamorous.

Can you give us some beauty tips for the Fall season?
For fall this year, think of cool tones rather than warm.  Berry colored lipstains, as well as grey, dark blue, and smoky metallic eye make up.  The glowing look for skin can be achieved with mineral foundations, that also act as a powder. For clothing, grey is the neutral backdrop for brighter tones to play off of.  I like accents of tomato red, teal, concord grape, and orange.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a professional stylist?
My advice is always the same:  "Be willing to learn, and learn to be willing to do whatever it takes to make your dreams come true."  To quote Aristotle...We are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.
